In 1993, Cessna Aircraft Company decided to update the Citation V design, and announced the Citation Ultra. It was granted certification in June 1994.
The Citation Ultra is powered by two Pratt & Whitney JT15D-5D engines with 3045 lbs of thrust, which allows for a climb rate of 4,100 feet per minute. The avionics suite was updated to the Honeywell Primus 1000 EFIS glass cockpit. In 1994, the Ultra was named Flying Magazine's "Best Business Jet." The cabin volume is 310 cubic feet, which usually includes seven to eight passenger seats, two crew seats, a lavatory, folding tables and refreshment centers.
Production of the fleet ended in 1999, with a total of 279 jets built. As of December 2015, all of the Citation Ultra aircraft are pre-owned, and 8% are currently for sale on the market. This jet will usually spend an average of 364 days on the market. 276 of the aircraft are in operation today, and most of them are owned outright. North America holds the largest percentage of the fleet with 84%, and an additional 8% are operated by South America.
